At Team Moreira - Los Osos, we put a strong emphasis on our group of students feeling like a family. We strive for longevity over intensity- intelligence over aggression, ensuring that any person, at any age, at any skill level can train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. BJJ is great for health, self defense, sport or just as a hobby. We offer classes for adults and children as young as 5 years old.

Rob Lewis
Head Instructor, 4th Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt
Rob has spent the majority of his life as a martial arts student. At the age of 8, his father would take him out in the back yard to teach him techniques from martial arts he had studied in Korea while serving with the US Air Force. Since this time, Rob's thirst for learning more and more about martial arts has not been quenched. Since 1981, he has studied Kenpo Karate, Aikijtsu, Chinese Goju, Tai Chi, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Progressive Fighting, Filipino Martial Arts, Combat Sambo, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
When he found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1996, he knew that he had found an art to fully dedicate himself to. He has now studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 27 years with the likes of Joe Moreira, Aaron Blake, Trent Lewis, Luis Heredia, and Demi Barbito. He dedicates all of his current study time to developing his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Joe Moreira.
Rob was born and raised in Oxnard, CA but has lived on both coasts as he spent a considerable amount of time living back in the state of Maine, as well. He decided to run from the cold weather and has now been living in Los Osos since 2008. He was a videographer/photographer for GoWesty Camper Products here in Los Osos from 2008-2015 but now dedicates all his time to his family and teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has three amazing children and his wife, Jaime (who is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor), who have helped him shape his vision for the studio.
Jim West
Head Kids Instructor, 1st degree Black Belt
Jim West is the head instructor for the kids classes and he is an assistant instructor for the adult Jiu Jitsu program at Team Moreira, Los Osos. Jim is a 1st degree black belt under Rob Lewis and has been studying BJJ under Professor Lewis since 2008. Jim has lived on the central coast for over thirty years and has taught English at Cuesta College for nearly two decades. He enjoys the family-friendly environment at the studio and is proud of the fact that his wife and two kids share the mats with him on a regular basis.
Jaime Lewis
Instructor, 1st degree Black Belt
Jaime Lewis is a 1st degree black belt under Rob Lewis and has been studying BJJ under Professor Lewis since 2011. She is an assistant instructor for the kids and adult classes. She is a Level 3 Ginastica Natural instructor and teaches our Ginastica class on Sundays. Jaime also serves as Business Manager at Team Moreira - Los Osos. Jaime is originally from Humboldt County but has lived on the central coast since 2007. She brings great energy to the mats and is an active competitor.
Miguel Ortega
Instructor, Black Belt
Miguel Ortega is a black belt under Rob Lewis and has been training with Professor Lewis since 2011. Miguel is an assistant instructor for the adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program and runs the Friday night fundamentals class. He shares the mats with his two brothers. Miguel has a bachelors degree in Child Development and loves to run in his spare time. Miguel is a great instructor with extensive knowledge of Jiu Jitsu and is known for having an incredibly smooth game.
Alec West
Assistant Instructor, Black Belt
Alec West is a black belt under Rob Lewis and has been training with Professor Lewis since 2009. Alec is an assistant instructor for the kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program. He is a Los Osos native and is the first student of Professor Lewis to start in the kids program (at the age of 8), be promoted through all the kids ranks, move up to the adult class, and work his way up to black belt. Alec has a bachelors degree in English from Cal Poly and is a talented Jiu Jitsu practitioner.
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billy Wilson
Assistant Instructor, Brown Belt
Billy Wilson earned his brown belt from Rob Lewis and had been training with Professor Lewis since 2010. Billy was an assistant instructor for the adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program and the no-gi class. He served for 23 years in the US Army and from 2006-2012 was the Army Combatives instructor, Level 4. He shared the mats with his wife and two sons until his passing in 2022. He will be greatly missed.
