December 6th - Final Showdown of the Season (Belt Awarded)
Medals
We have official medals that each competitor gets to take home for winning 1st place in their division. The winners of each division will also get to pose with the championship belt. Lastly, the winners of each tournament division will earn points towards taking the championship belt home to keep at the end of the year. First place in each division gets 5 points and second place gets 3 points
The Belt
At the final showdown of the year, the big championship belt will be awarded.
Mercy Rule
The mercy rule will be in effect. This means that if one competitor reaches a 15 point score advantage over their opponent in any capacity, the match will be halted and the child will be declared the winner. This is to keep things moving faster as well as prevent a landslide point victory.
Entering
-
If your student is interested in participating in each Saturday Showdown, please respond to the emails we send out ahead of each Showdown.
-
We will do our best to create fair brackets so that all of our kiddos are able to take part in this fun event. However, since this is an in-house tournament we won't have strict weight, age, and rank divisions.
-
We will inform parents and students of any date changes for the season
Format
-
Single elimination bracket, there is no match fighting for 3rd/4th place.
-
Medals will be awarded for 1st place only. We have one championship belt, which is not a take home trophy. The first place winner for each bracket will pose with the championship belt and we will take a picture of them holding the belt. Winner's photos will be posted on social media.
-
There will be points awarded to the first and second place finishers for each Saturday Showdown. At the end of the year, the competitor with the most points from all events will get to take the belt home for good!
-
Families and spectators are welcome to attend. Please keep in mind that we have a strict policy of no shoes of any kind on the mats, and any spectators acting in a disrespectful manner will be asked to leave.
Rules
Points are only awarded once control is established (roughly a silent 3 count). Briefly establishing a position with no control will not result in points.
The point values are as follows:
-
Takedown - 2 points
-
Pass the guard - 3 points
-
Knee On Belly - 2 points
-
Sweep from Guard - 2 points
-
Mount - 4 points
-
Back Control - 4 points
If a match goes the full time and the points are tied, we will choose one of two options. Either it will go to a sudden death round (first points scored wins) or it will be a referee decision and the coaches will choose the winner. Which one we choose will depend on how much time is left in the event and how close the match seemed to be.
No submissions will be allowed in Little Monkeys matches. Submissions will be allowed in Juniors 1 and Juniors 2 matches.
In all divisions, the mercy rule will be in effect. This means that if one competitor reaches a 15 point score advantage over their opponent in any capacity, the match will be halted and the child will be declared the winner.
The following submissions are not allowed in the submission matches:
Leg locks of any kind
Wrist locks
Neck cranks
Smother chokes
Things that will get you disqualified:
-
striking/hitting of any kind
-
unsportsmanlike conduct
-
arguing with the referee or coaches
-
complaining
-
acting in an unsafe manner
-
not listening to the referee or coaches
Our first priority is the safety of our kids. If the referee sees anything that puts one or both competitors in danger, they are within their rights to end a match and decide a winner.
