HYGIENE & STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
Please review this hygiene information and code of conduct carefully. It is critical both for the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and the culture of our studio, that all items are adhered to. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Hygiene

-
Wash your gi or other gear after every class. This includes disinfecting your belt in some way.
-
When you come to class, your gi (uniform) must be properly laundered and dry. Visibly dirty gear or a strong odor will result in you being turned away from class.
-
Wear a rashguard under your uniform if possible.
-
Please wear deodorant but do not douse yourself in perfume or cologne.
-
Shower immediately after class to prevent skin infection.
-
Trim finger and toe nails regularly. Long nails not only carry dirt but can also be a danger to your training partners.
-
Do not come to class if you have any type of infectious skin diseases. Check yourself regularly for signs of ringworm, staph, impetigo, warts, etc.
-
Do not come to class if you are sick.
-
Disinfect your feet anytime you step onto the mats. Do not step on the mats with shoes or step off of the mats barefooted.
-
Shoes must be worn in the bathrooms, parking lot, and any other public spaces off of the mats.
-
Tie your hair back if it is long.
-
Do not roll wearing jewelry of any kind.
-
Properly wrap any cuts with bandages and tape. If you are bleeding excessively you will be asked to stop training to avoid blood on training partners and mats.

student code of conduct

-
Take care of each other. Other students are your training partners and teammates and you should treat them accordingly. When rolling, do not crank on submissions. It is better to lose an attack than to hurt your training partners. If you find yourself having to force a submission, you are probably doing it wrong.
-
Adopt a growth mindset while training. Focusing on winning/losing a match hinders progress and leads to an unhealthy training environment. Come to class ready to learn and grow.
-
Tap early and tap often. Injuries are bad, and can in many cases be prevented by checking your ego at the door. A tap is not a loss.
-
Drilling is not sparring. Give the appropriate pressure as dictated by the instructor–no more, no less.
-
Inform your coaches and training partners about any pre-existing injuries.
-
Questions are welcome and necessary for everyone to learn effectively. Please ask them when you have them.
-
Do not talk while the instructor is teaching, and only drill what you’ve been instructed to drill.
-
Call the instructor by his/her first name. If you feel the need to address an instructor by title, you can use the term “Coach”.
-
You have the right to refuse training, sparring, and interacting with any one for any reason.
-
Treat everyone with respect, patience, integrity, courtesy, dignity, and consideration regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Lewd, bigoted, derogatory, or otherwise disrespectful comments or jokes made on the mats will not be tolerated.
-
Filming or photographing other students without their consent is prohibited. If you want to film your rolls please be courteous and ask permission first.
-
All physical contact must be consensual and non-sexual in nature. We have a zero tolerance policy for sexual misconduct.
-
If you are a victim of; or witness to; sexual misconduct during training, report it immediately. You can do so anonymously here.
